1st Bite [Action/Video]
(ooc: after this mess)
[A girl with a familiar face to a local artist is sitting in Good Spirits with a nice, typically expensive bottle of whiskey. She hates whiskey. Hates alcohol on a good day.
But this is a very, very bad day. Raylene Carter is a wonderful mess right now too: hair in tangles like her sister's and leaves and dirt stuck in it. Mud caking her feet and splashing up her legs, A dirty white newcomers dress and a pair of dark brown wings that won't stop twitching.
Something happened, something that could encourage her to go right for the alcohol and get righteously pissed. Some first day.]
[The book isn't so hard to figure out even in her inebriated state. She squints at the screen a moment before mumbling with a thick drawl:]
Someplace 'round here that sells clothes?

but buffy finds that's a scary thought and so she maintains distance. calling across the bar: ] Can I get you anything, hun?
[ she doesn't get close enough to notice any differences. ]
[ action ]
Thanks. Got what I want.
[The thick accent is miles away from what Jilly uses, and just saying it makes her pour another shot for herself. And she coughs when she downs it, so unused to alcohol. She could handle beer and cheap shit fairly well but this stuff burns and it's starting to feel good.]
[ action ]
[ the coughing -- sure, that could be explained by the drink. but the voice? the barmaid frowns from across the distance. ] You should get home. Wrap up.
[ action ]
[Okay, that gets her attention and she watches Buffy with the most confused look on her face. ]
[ action ]
Jilly, I--
[ wait. she squints. ] I thought...uhm, you look...
Oh, crap. Is there a Shift happening? [ or had she been kidnapped? because of the new feather dress and the wings aren't right and... ]
Unless you're not you. And you are, in fact, someone else...
[ and now that the blonde is closer, she can see the differences. but they only serve to make the similarities more pronounced. ]
[ action ]
Jesus-- [She swallows, eyes never leaving the other woman and gets her bearings again. Like she told Pinky when they were young: just act stupid and charming, cops get real bored with you thataway. So she tries to be as vapid as she can manage in this state but there was too much that had happened today and the usual veneer has plenty of cracks in it.]
You sure you ain't been samplin' the merchandise?
[ action ]
[ her tone is distracted. barely present. she's too busy examining the young woman. ] Alright. I'll bite. Who are you supposed to be?
[ action ]
[It certainly explains the grimace shes wearing. But this is the easiest way to just forget about today. Hopefully. She doesn't know if she can forget burying her sister yet.
An involuntary shudder runs through her wings and she looks plenty confused at Buffy's question. Just like she should.]
Whaddya mean by that?

What is? That bottle of whiskey. With very rare exception Jilly doesn’t drink, and Amelia’s seen her attempt at downing hard stuff before. Not pretty. Something is clearly wrong, so without preamble Amelia drops down into a chair across from who she thinks is Jilly Coppercorn.]
What’s going on?

been when she wasn't running a con. She scoffs when Amelia asks the question and just responds as she normally would.]
Non'a your business.

What the--Jilly? [Amelia leaned forward, getting a better look. She lets out a sigh once it clicks, leaning back in the chair.]
Sorry. You look like a friend of mine.
no subject
Don't let her know.]
S'fine. I just got me one of them faces.

And speaking of...]
You new around here? [Now that she looks again, Amelia thinks that might be a new feather dress. Hard to tell with how dirty it is though.]

[Why lie about that? It seems like these people know a newbie when they see one..]
What's with all these books I keep seein'?

They’re how people communicate most of the time. They’re magic—which is real here, in case it isn’t in your world. Doesn’t matter whether or not you believe me, you’ll see it for yourself eventually.
[And Amelia isn’t inclined to argue for the existence of something she didn’t believe in before she got to Luceti either.]
There should’ve been one near you wherever you woke up. Would’ve had your name on it. If you didn’t grab it, you should try and go back for it.
no subject
[She doesn't remember where exactly she woke up but she knows it was somewhere on the edge of the town.]
I guess I'll go look for that tomorrow then.

Good Spirits for good spirits. The thought had made him chuckle.
There's little hesitation then as he makes straight for where Raylene's sitting and slips into the seat next to her, more preoccupied with getting himself a beer than paying close attention to the woman.] Sorry I'm late.
[action]
Not to mention she's well on her way to being completely smashed. Still, she has enough sense to respond.]
Sorry, bud. Not the right girl.
[She thinks that, if she were working, she'd put her hand on his leg and squeeze. Try to get on his good side. Flash him a bit of cleavage. Be completely obtuse about it.]
[action]
Geordie blinks for a moment, trying to place the accent, before smiling a little sheepishly. The darker wings and that dress should have made his mistake obvious, even before the woman replied.]
Sorry about that. [The beer comes and he takes a quick drink before continuing.] New here?
[action]
Guess so. Ain' so sure I'll be stayin' long though. [Just until I wake up.]
[action]
He flashes her a sympathetic grin.] That's what I hoped, too.
[action]
[Because that's the first thing she thinks, of course. That this is the dreamlands she knows and all she has to do is just pass the time until she wakes up and that'll be that.]
Great.
[She reasoned that out after she buried her sister of course. Ideally she wonders if Jilly will wake up or not. Would she ever come here again when she dreamed? Would she even dream again? Too many questions so another shot of whiskey gets tossed back and she nearly gags on it.]
[action]
Sometimes, he still wishes that this was nothing more than a dream.]
Not yet. And it's been almost two months now.

The one between the grocery store and weapons' shop is the one I like best. They have a pretty wide variety and it's just... there. You don't have to ask for anything to be made or something like that.

[She doesn't look much older than Clove. Unfortunately.]
